We here at the comedy confidential are very much anti-censorship.
We strongly believe in the right and power of free speech and don't think that anyone has the right to take that away from us. Filtering the internet is NOT going to save children from sexual abuse, filtering the internet is NOT going to stop people from distributing illegal material. Filtering the internet WILL allow governments to restrict our ability to access information, filtering the internet WILL give the governments greater powers to shut down anyone who speaks against them. It's up to us to stay informed and choose what we want to believe and engage in healthy debate - we have no way of knowing what information is being restricted by these kinds of laws. As humans we have a right to free speech and most of us are smart enough to form our own opinions on things based on fact and research. An internet filter will destroy this right.
In Australia we are still fighting the clean feed. Now it's Americas turn to fight their equivalent.

VERYONE HAS A FAMILY. AND EVERY FAMILY'S DIFFERENT. BUT ONE THING WE CAN ALL AGREE ON:
Family’s a funny thing.
The ANA Alliance for Family Entertainment, a group of some of the country’s largest national advertisers, is looking for the freshest take on what’s real—and really funny—about today’s American family. We helped bring Gilmore Girls, Everybody Hates Chris, Friday Night Lights and 20 other shows you love to TV, and we’ve awarded more than 50 scholarships to young screenwriters at leading universities across the country.
Now we’re looking for the next great story featuring the modern American family. Share your original, half-hour comedy format script with us for an opportunity to win $5,000, PLUS receive creative guidance and direct input from John Wells!
An American film and television producer, writer and director, Wells is best known for his role as executive producer of the television series ER, Third Watch, The West Wing, Shameless and Southland. His company, John Wells Productions, is based at Warner Bros. studios in Burbank, California. Who knows? With a little guidance, your script might even be ready for the big pitch. This could be the break you’ve been dreaming about!
But hurry, the deadline for script submission is October 28th at 11:59 am ET.

Friday Flashback: Weird Al
"Weird Al" Yankovic - Fat
When someone says musical comedy, the first person that comes to mind for most people is Weird Al Yankovic. There's nothing like a classic parody from Weird Al for a Friday Flashback!

Gert the Joke Lady - 90 year old stand up comedian
Gert Schuster is a living legend. After coming out of a 30 day coma in 2004, the holocaust survivor decided to try stand-up comedy. Since then she has performed on cruise ships, at private functions and has even opened for Debbie Reynolds.
What a remarkable woman!

You got your music in my comedy. You got my comedy in your music!
Comedy. Music. The proper combination of the two often results in the most delicious of cocktails. The title track of a show does more than set the vibe for a series, podcast. It can create excitement and anticipation. The song can be likened to the opening act of a comedy show. The theme songs to both The Green Room with Paul Provenza and Greg Proops' podcast are exceptional examples of this tasty mix.
I came across this blog and was incredibly excited. Mostly, because
"A Fistful of Soundtracks" mentions 3 of my personal favorites: The Green Room with Paul Provenza, Greg Proops' podcast The Smartest Man in the World
Just wanted to share this with you, dear readers. If you're not familiar with any of the media that was mentioned in my post, I do hope that you will take the time to watch, listen and laugh.
Free thinking me.
Michelle
